Getting Hooked Up

Start enjoying over-the-air digital television!

Over-the-air digital programming is available on Vermont Public Television's digital channel 33, serving northern and central Vermont and neighboring areas of New York and Quebec; digital channel 41, serving southeastern Vermont and bordering areas of New Hampshire; digital channel 28, serving Rutland and Addison counties, southwestern Vermont and bordering areas of New York; and digital channel 20 serving the Northeast Kingdom, central Vermont and bordering areas of New Hampshire.

Receiving a Digital Signal
To receive a digital signal, you'll need a TV with a built-in digital television receiver or a digital set-top box connected to your existing TV.

Set-top boxes are tuners that hook up to your television and do an outstanding job of receiving both digital and analog over-the-air signals. If you're getting a set-top box, be sure it includes an ATSC tuner (that is, a digital tuner).

A digital set-top box connected to any TV set that can receive one of VPT's digital channels over the air will bring you all the digital services currently being broadcast on VPT. You will need a high definition TV in order to experience the full impact of high definition programming, however.

Check your electronics dealer for models and prices. Tip: When shopping for a digital TV set, check how it looks with both high definition and standard definition programming.

Your existing antenna -- UHF to receive our digital channels 33, 20 or 41 and a VHF antenna to receive our digital channel 28 -- should bring in a digital signal, but if you need an antenna, please click here for more information.

Also, this antenna mapping program will help you to determine the proper outdoor antenna to use at your location in order to receive VPT or any of your local television broadcast channels.
