Fly Fishing Trout Camp
Body:

New England is home to hundreds if not thousands of summer camps every year. But if you’re looking for a camp that specializes in fly-fishing they are few and far between. In 2011 the Mad Dog chapter of Trout Unlimited launched its first fly-fishing camp for teens. Since then they’ve been spawning a new school of enthusiastic fly fishermen and women every summer.

Otter Creek Classic

After a long, dull winter, opening day of trout season in Vermont is welcomed with open arms by anglers across the state. While many Vermonters follow opening-day traditions that are decades old, others are starting new traditions. In 2009, a fun catch-and-release tournament was created in the Middlebury area, and for a growing number of passionate fly fishermen, the Otter Creek Classic is fast becoming an annual rite of spring.

Fly Fishing for Longnose Gar
Body:

During the Dog Days of summer, when rising water temperatures make trout sluggish and hard to catch, many fly fishermen hang up their rods. But for a growing number of anglers, hot, sunny days are the perfect excuse to target other species. Longnose gar are just one of several fish in Lake Champlain that thrive in warm water. And for at least one angler, fly fishing for these ancient predators is the perfect way to spend a summer day.

Fly-Fishing
Body:

There are so many pieces that make up the fly fishing experience, it's easy to see why it takes people a while to grasp this challenging sport. Aside from mastering the artistry of the cast, there is the equipment, the conditions of the water, a knowledge of the hatching season of the various flies you are trying to emulate and a number of other factors that must be right to make a "good presentation" for the fish. Host Marianne Eaton joins instructor Truel Myers at the Orvis Fly Fishing School in Manchester for a fly fishing primer.

The American Museum of Fly Fishing
Body:

What do artist Winslow Homer, statesman Daniel Webster, author Ernest Hemmingway and baseball great Ted Williams have in common? They were all avid fishermen, who’s passion for the art of angling with a fly lives on today at the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, Vermont. From trout flies that were tied back when George Washington was President to Jimmy Carter’s favorite fishing tackle, the museum houses the world’s largest collection of rare, one of a kind fly fishing related objects. Which collectively document the evolution of fly-fishing in to the sport, craft, art form and industry that we know today. A visit to the museum is a great cure for cabin fever in the winter. And during the summer it can easily be combined with some fly fishing on the nearby Battenkill River.
