Becoming an Outdoor Family
Body:

Since 1997, Groton State Forest has hosted Vermont’s Becoming an Outdoor Family workshop. For three days each spring, this annual event gives families the opportunity to camp, enjoy the park, and learn outdoor skills. More than 40 different hands-on classes are offered during the weekend. They showcase the wide variety of outdoor activities available to Vermonters, and help instill a basic understanding of environmental conservation. The only thing better than spending time outdoors, is spending time outdoors with your family.

Groton State Forest
Body:

A century ago Vermont had a very different landscape. Intensive logging and massive forest fires decimated our woodlands. But today, due to the creation of the National Forest Service as well as strict forest management practices, 78% of Vermont is now forested. One of the state’s natural gems is Groton State Forest. Within the park's 28,000 acres, lie six state parks and an abundance of recreational opportunities.

Brighton State Park
Body:

One of the outstanding attractions of Brighton State Park is its remoteness. The wild lands to the northeast and southeast of the town of Island Pond are suited to the angler, the hunter, or the outdoor lover who likes to roam away from developed roads or towns. Brighton State Park is located on the shores of Spectacle Pond. A sandy day use beach and bathhouse is located on Island Pond just a half mile from the campground.

Elmore State Park
Body:

The Town of Lake Elmore calls itself 'The Beauty Spot of Vermont." And Elmore State Park is a perfect place to enjoy the scenery and activities in the area. The park had its beginning in 1936 when the town of Elmore and local citizens made a gift of 30 acres on Lake Elmore to the state of Vermont. With modest means, a picnic and beach area were created. Today, with more than 700 acres, Elmore State Park has become a very enjoyable recreation facility. Elmore State Park is staffed by the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC), in an educational partnership with the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.
