Michael McGovern considers himself the Norman Rockwell of romantic illustration. In his Barnard, Vt., studio, he creates the covers that adorn the books in Harlequin's "Silhouette-Desire" series. In this visit, we'll watch the entire process that transforms a romantic plot-line into a one-of-a-kind painting designed to sell books.
In the 19th-century, small glass factories sprouted up in places like Salisbury, Vt., on the shores of Lake Dunmore, and in Burlington, near Lake Champlain, where they were close to the raw materials needed for their craft. Today, a new generation of glassblowers is making Vermont their home. We take a look back, and forward, to a new era of artistic creation.
Located in West Rutland, Vt., The Carving Studio is a home and school for artists studying the ancient art of stonecarving and others forms of sculpture. In 1996, we paid a visit to The Carving Studio as they prepared for Sculpturefest, a festival and showcase for 60 regional artists. Their works are displayed throughout the grounds of The Carving Studio, quarries and industrial settings in West Rutland.
