OUT OF THE ORDINARY:
Electra Havemeyer Webb and the Shelburne Museum
The
Shelburne Museum is home to a
collection that ranges from children's toys and duck decoys to quilts, weathervanes,
barns and a lighthouse. All of this was the result of the creative imagination
and incredible energy of one woman, Electra
Havemeyer Webb.
Hosted by Fritz Wetherbee,
the program takes a look at the Museum and the woman who taught Americans to
appreciate folk art.
At the Shelburne Museum

The Electra
Havemeyer Webb Memorial Building is unlike the Museum's historic houses.
Instead of providing insight into Electra Havemeyer Webb as a collector of folk
art,
the Memorial Building displays some of the other forces that influenced her
life.
If you're planning
a visit to the Museum, take a look at suggested
tours or read about the
exhibits you might see. One exhibit, "A Bountiful Plenty from
the Shelburne Museum: Folk Art Traditions in America," has recently
returned after an 18-month national tour. The exhibit was well received
throughout the country as you can read in Folk
Art before Its Time, a description of the collection on its visit
to Georgia.
