Climate Change: A Northeast Primer

Climate change is already underway across our region, and 2011's Tropical Storm Irene was a sobering example of the type of severe weather we may be experiencing in the future - and the effect it might have on habitat, water quality and quality of life. A regional consortium of researchers are engaged in several projects that hope to shed light on our changing climate, and on how we can best adapt to an unpredictable future.

Melissa FellowsMelissa Fellows is a seventh grade life science teacher at Woodstock Union Middle School in Woodstock, VT. She has been teaching in Vermont and New Hampshire in middle and high school for 12 years.  At Woodstock she has taught seventh grade life science as well as team-taught high school AP Environmental Science.  She has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and Biology and a graduate degree in Education.  Melissa has been instrumental in developing and implementing the middle school technology program for both faculty and students.  She continues to work with the Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park on its Place Based education programs.  She also is a co-leader of the Woodstock Farm to School program.
 

Jennifer Stainton

 

Jennifer Stainton is Science Department Chair and teaches Integrated Environmental Science and Chemistry at Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock, Vermont. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from The University of Richmond in 1996 and was awarded a M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from George Mason University in 1999. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Education Leadership at The University of Vermont, with a goal of evaluating the impact of scientist-teacher connections on student outcomes in the high school science classroom.
