Paint This With Jerry Yarnell

Jerry's Lily Pond, Part 1

Series Website »
Episode Guide »
(16X20 Acrylic) This painting develops a lily pad pond with its flower being the center of focus. The canvas is prepared with an olive green mottled background. Jerry then starts by sketching the lily pads using elliptical shapes to create flatness. Next, a deep red green mixture is used to fill in the areas around the pads, and he then mixtures a soft light green color that is used to shape the pads with clean edges. Focus is on the design and composition, using proper negative space techniques. Using a lighter green mixture and a chiseled edge synthetic brush, Jerry creates turned up edges on the lily pads, thus adding an extra dimension to the front side. The pads are highlighted using a warm complimentary accent to finish the session.
