See how learning expeditions motivate and transform students. Teachers share great math lesson ideas on visualizing geometry, understanding linear equations, and getting students started with trigonometry. A class of 5th graders learns how water quality affects the environment. Learn key tips for a successful parent-teacher conference. Amazing Classrooms - Expeditionary Learning at King Middle School - King Middle School in Portland Maine provides a glimpse into the inner-workings and experiences of an expeditionary learning approach. A look at three expeditions for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, gives great insight as to what an in-depth expedition looks like and how several weeks of activities lead up to the culminating event for the project. Great Lesson Ideas - Visualizing Geometry - Ms. Whicker uses similar figures, 3D views and cross-sectional views to have her students construct figures using manipulatives. Great Lesson Ideas - Graphing Linear Equations - Full Body Style - Rebecca Davis sets up a coordinate plane on the floor of her classroom. Groups of 3 or 4 students are assigned equations in slope-intercept form and graph them using their bodies on the giant coordinate plane. As extensions, Ms. Davis changes the slope or y-intercept of the original equation and makes the activity into a race. Great Lesson Ideas - Measuring pH as it Relates to Water Quality - Marie Hartford's class of 5th grade scientists learn about the importance of water quality and its benefits to wildlife and the environment. Within the narrow confines of pH necessary for their tank of red-legged frogs, students use a combination of pond and tap water to keep the tank healthy, using their collected data to make the decision on the proportion between the two. Great Lesson Ideas - Introduction to Trigonometry - Brigitte Tennis uses the visual aid of spraying water from one point of a triangle to illustrate to her students opposite and adjacent sides. She then beats out a rhythm on drums to te
