Imagine that you are a housewife with three kids, and your husband abandons you, leaving you without resources as he heads back to his native Europe. How do you cope? If you're Cora Tsouflidou, you fight back with entrepreneurial energy. Despite having no background in business, the newly single mother bought a diner, just to survive. Then she specialized in a "strictly breakfast" concept, with "late hours" until mid-afternoon. It worked. So well, in fact, that she opened more. Then she began to franchise them under the Cora banner. Today, her son Nicholas Tsouflidis is president and CEO. Investing in the most important meal of the day has proven a boon for both of them. The mother-and-son team is now a nationwide success in Canada, soon to enter the U.S. In this episode, they share their story of building this family business in ways that run counter to some traditional notions. With 125 locations and 5,000 staff, it's clear that Cora knows best.
