Volunteering is a great way to strengthen and to give back to your community, the state, and to the country.
April is National Volunteer Month. By volunteering you have the ability to improve people’s lives, including your own. It is also a great way to acquire new skills and meet people in your area with similar interests.
Vermont has the second highest rate in the country of young adults who volunteer, while 32% of Vermont senior citizens contribute their time and talents in one of hundreds of Vermont organizations.
Whether you are an individual, a family or a school class that is interested in volunteering, there are hundreds of ways to help out. Here are just a few examples of volunteer opportunities:
- Literacy programs
- Animal Shelters
- Hospitals and Nursing Homes
- Boys / Girls Scouts Leaders
- Summer Camps
- Political Campaigns
- Walkathons
- Mentors
- Hotline Volunteers
- Administrative Work
- Drivers
- Foster Grandparents
- Senior Companions
Catch the Spirit of volunteerism! If you have a skill or talent that you’d like to share, choose a cause and give them a call. The benefits are endless.
